Could I borrow three pirates and a cameraman?
« on: March 10, 2010, 04:50:32 PM »
Hey folks. I know I haven't been terribly active of late. I just had a project with an American underground Rapper by the name of Random, a video that actually showed up on Kotaku that you can check out here. But aside from that, I'm working on my review projects again, trying to get back into doing stuff I enjoy and, hell, even making some dough for it.

Although, I need to ask for a hand, because I have what I think is a great idea, but it would actually require a few people's help. Specifically, three people (or more) with either the CTP or Outcast tags. It won't need to be a speaking part, because I have voice actors already lined up for it. But I essentially just need someone to come up and sort of act like a heavy embargo on me, sorta block me out of a tradelane.

I would also really like a cameraman, in cockpit view, sorta bopping around, taking shots of the crowd of pirates and myself. Although that person would need to have a screen capture program capable of taking video. I'd really, REALLY appreciate the help, and I can do a couple hours worth of mining to pay for the work.

So. Yeah. If you're interested, post in this thread with, like, your typical weekly schedule, and I'll put together what might be the best time. I would like to do this kinda soon, but we'll find out what's best in the long run.

Thank you.

Additional pirates / freelancers who want to back up the blockade.

I'm interested in helping. If I was camera-man though I'd need someone to sugest a good capture program to me that is free otherwise i'll be taking stuff with fraps in 30s spurts. I would love to be a pirate too, i'd create a new char for it with whatever name/look you want.

Good video capture program, the site can host your raw clips too, and it's built for game compatibility (it does FL, I just checked). I used it for my HL2 videos.

I would suggest, depended on your computer (if you're runnin' a mac daddy, pimp and a half, Crysis is like Doom computer? Ignore this) shut everything but the game and the camera down.

I'd also suggest Hypercam or Fraps, but those're pay versions. As long as it doesn't have a watermark anywhere, I'm fine with whatever program is used. And of course, I'll direct everyone on how to organize themselves and whatnot once we actually do the shoot. There aren't many necessary shots, but there are a few, and I really appreciate those willing to lend a hand.

Oh yes, that'll do quite nicely. A little touchy, but it's not gonna be any major jumping around. Most action there'll be on the video is filming the pirates blowing me up. But they'll do it three or four times from multiple directions.

Sounds good, if i'm careful then i can minimise the touchyness. It's mostly just when NPCs spawn or something like that because my system is a little short on ram.

What we'll be doing is, I'm gonna have a few of my friends do the pirates and we'll use Alt accounts with no faction affiliation. I'll have Zonewalker do some mining to make up the money to outfit these ships, but yeah. So basically, all I need now is extras.

As for optimizing, if you were to kill space dust or debris, that'd be fine. Textures are barely needed for it, so long as you can make out it's space ships. And I'm trying to pick an area that is even kinda light on NPC traffic, but I'm thinking Galileo is gonna be best.
