A friendly reminder about the server rules
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:37:02 PM »

It's the start of a new year, I hope everyone takes a few minutes to refresh themselves on the server rules posted here - The Rules of Shattered Worlds

I am seeing a lot of rules being broken on the server as of late. I will be cracking down with individuals who keep ignoring our rules, so be forewarned  ;D

Rules being broken on a DAILY bases -

1) ID rule: "All players are required to have a faction ID by level 35. If observed beyond level 35 with the starter ID, the player will be fined and advised to buy the ID."

 - This means you MUST have an ID by level 35 or I will fine you. Trust me when I say it's cheaper to just get an ID lol.. Any ID, doesn't matter which you choose, but you must have one purchased and mounted.

2) 10 minute rule: "When destroyed in combat, you must wait ten (10) minutes to re-engage unless given expressed permission from the opposing side. Re-engagement is defined as initiating another fight, re-entering a fight you were destroyed in, entering the opponent's territory, or otherwise not directly leaving the scene. In addition, if you are destroyed in a multi-person battle (consisting of three or more players) you may not re-enter it, nor aid any participants, for the duration of the battle."

 - This means I better stop seeing people immediately undock and re-engage others immediately after they were just killed. People are getting pretty lazy with this rule and it needs to stop. If you see someone breaking this rule, please forward the incident to SP-Voodoo's inbox and I will have a talk with them about the error in their ways. If you are one of the people who ignores this rule and you are reading this, take the proactive approach and correct your own error in judgement. This rule is here to make it more fair, realistic and enjoyable for all on the server. I will start levying heavy fines or timeouts to those who break this rule.

3) Level 20 rule: "Do not attack players who're under level 20. If they shoot you, feel free to turn them into space dust, but do not initiate the attack."

 - This means DO NOT attack people who are under level 20 unless they fire on you first, period. Penalties for breaking this rule will be heavy fine or timeout for repeat offenders. This rule is here to protect the young tree's and let them grow up. It was designed to make this a more pleasant experience for everyone who plays here. Nobody wants to get wasted in a Starflyer after they undock from Manhattan.

4) RP First rule: "A player is required to incite RP verbal interaction before any sort of conflict. Period."

 - This means before you squeeze that trigger and vaporize someone, you had better have made some form of verbal interaction first. Killing them, then stating you "roleplay" afterwards doesn't count. It needs to be prior to engagement.

Voodoo's examples of quick and easy "one liners" that could be used:

- "Die Scumbag"
 - "All your souls are belong to me"
 - "Everybody be cool, this is a robbery"
 - "Hostile contact, engaging"

Lastly, few people have an issue with this rule but it's still worthy to mention.

5) Listen to SP rule: "Listen to the Server Police. They're people the Admin obviously trust to make good decisions regarding the health of the server. If they ask you to do something, please comply. If there is a question about their actions, screenshot it and send the screenshot with a detailed description to one of the Admin for review. Still comply, but make sure to screenshot the incident."

 - We the Server Police are not perfect. We make mistakes occasionally. With this said however, players need to know that we have the backing and support of the Admin team. If we ever step out of line and act inappropriately, the Admins will be the first ones to give us a beatdown.

With that said, I should note that when someone ignores our in-game directives or is dis-respectful to us, we have the authority to act accordingly and appropriately as the situation merits. It is not always an easy or fun job being on the Server Police. We take a lot of crap from people at times. Please do your part to make our interactions go smoothly. By no means do you need to kiss our butts, but you don't need to disrespect us either.

Thank you for your time and understanding. To serve and protect..

In general, everyone gets a few chances to screw up when it comes to the rules as we're all human (I hope) and don't have perfect memory. If you break one, we usually warn you first unless it's something serious like cheating. If you continue to do it or we catch you doing it again we'll probably fine you, which will typically depend on the nature on the infraction and/or how much you have on you at the time if we need to get the point across ;D Should you continue in ignoring the rules, we start breaking out the vacation calendars in the form of temporary bans (usually 3 days). Thankfully, few people have been unwise enough to actually continue beyond that, but I'm sure you get the general idea of what happens after a temporary ban 8)

We don't want to punish players and we especially don't want to see anyone banned but we DO want to see everyone playing by the rules. Please keep up to speed on the rules. If you're not sure about whether something is illegal or not, just don't do it until you get clarification. For the most part our rules are common sense and usually boil down to nothing more than "Don't be a jerk." I should note that we can and will monitor players remotely (as in we can do it even if we're not logged on to the server) if need be, so please don't think that just because you can't see an SP or admin online that you can do whatever you like.
