Shattered Worlds:: War Torn Server RulesThe Rules for Shattered Worlds::War Torn have been created with simplicity in mind. Because of this, please note the #1 rule(hereafter called the "Golden Rule"). And then note it again. The SWWT Admin team isn't trying to make your life difficult, they're trying to keep the playing field even for all individuals. These rules are in no particular order of importance, other than the Golden Rule.
Some of these rules will have examples attached to them. These are by NO MEANS the extent of what the rule entails. They are examples only.
Remember, screenshot anything you're unsure of. This will give the Server Police (tagged [SP]) and Admin (tagged [Admin]) actual hard evidence of things that may be in question. If you don't have a screenshot, expect your case to be harder to prove and expect that we're not nearly as likely to do anything about it. At that point it's your word vs. their word.
General Server Rules: The Golden 10- 1.) Catch-22. Not everything can be caught in a set of rules. Some things, and people, will fall through the cracks. However, the implementation of this rule shows each of you that the Admin team will review each case of potential system abuse and determine whether or not it is fit for an added rule. We don't like rules, so don't want to add them. Please don't force us into a position that we need to add more.
- 2.) Exploiting bugs or limitations of the game engine is expressly prohibited. The Admin reserve the right to determine what an exploit is and what isn't (see Catch-22, above). Those found guilty of using exploits as a means to gain an advantage over other players will be subject to punitive measures to include deletion of characters, and/or ban. In short, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If it seems questionable, it probably is. Report all such cases to the Admin and do not continue to abuse them.
- 3.) Please attempt to be reasonable. The Admin team doesn't ask for maturity in our average player, but we do ask that you attempt to be reasonable as maturity is in the eye of the beholder.
- 4.) Respect your fellow gamers. No sexual, racial, religious or any other form of discrimination will be tolerated. We're here to have fun and game, not to judge someone by their political, racial, or sexual choices. This rule includes but is not limited to Out-of-Character bashing, intentional OOC flamebaiting, etc.
- 5.) Players may have more than one account. These accounts may not be shared with anyone else. The exception to this is the faction-special account. See faction rules for more details. Only one account may be logged in at a given time.
- 6.) Dock-killing - This is forbidden, players must be in control of their ship before you fire upon them. Freelancer engine limits the amount of control a given player has when undocking from a base, so do not attack them until they're obviously out of the "black border" sequence.
- 7.) Do not attack players who're under level 20. If they shoot you, feel free to turn them into space dust, but do not initiate the attack.
- 8.) Listen to the Server Police. They're people the Admin obviously trust to make good decisions regarding the health of the server. If they ask you to do something, please comply. If there is a question about their actions, screenshot it and send the screenshot with a detailed description to one of the Admin for review. Still comply, but make sure to screenshot the incident. Anyone caught giving the Server Police a hard time will be given some mandatory vacation time.
- 9.) No cheating or extra modding. This should go without saying, but if you're caught in a speed mod or any other modded files outside of the standard SWWT files, you will be banned. This includes things that crash the server to respawn wrecks and/or duplicate items.
- 10.) Good sportsmanship is a key to success in online gaming. Please make sure to keep things above-the-board when dealing with other players. For more clarification, please see rule number 4. Reported cases of bad sportsmanship will result in punitive actions.

RP Rules - 1.) Shattered Worlds is a Role-play Enforced server. While this may sound cloying and commanding to some, what we're simply doing is ensuring that everyone has some sort of role, and attempts to play that role. You are required to be In-Character when speaking in system chat, unless such text is denoted as Out-of-Character in some way. (Commonly, \\ or ooc: is used.) The extent at which you roleplay beyond this is your decision.
Example: Bob plays John the hardened ex-military man. He tries to reply to hails in a manner that would befit the sobered, gruff feel of that character instead of responding "LOL, wut?" - 2.) All players are required to have a faction ID by level 35. If observed beyond level 35 with the starter ID, the player will be fined and advised to buy the ID.
- 3.) A player is required to incite RP verbal interaction before any sort of conflict. Role-play your kills.
- 4.) Players may be a member of only one established faction or clan. They may be a part of as many non-established groups as they wish (and the leadership allow.) Faction/clan leaders are well within their rights to require you to only be a part of their faction/clan.
- 5.) Players may not fly under a prefix tag without submitting a faction document. Suffix tags akin to [X] to denote piracy, or [T] to denote a trade vessel, are still allowed.
- 6.) When destroyed in combat, you must wait ten (10) minutes to re-engage unless given expressed permission from the opposing side. Re-engagement is defined as initiating another fight, re-entering a fight you were destroyed in, entering the opponent's territory, or otherwise not directly leaving the scene. In addition, if you are destroyed in a multi-person battle (consisting of three or more players) you may not re-enter it, nor aid any participants, for the duration of the battle.
Example: You are destroyed by a Corsair near Leon. You were docked at FP5. You may take off and leave Corsair territory (e.g. into Omega-11/Omicron Theta) but may not move further into Corsair territory (e.g. Omicron Gamma, Omega-5) until 10 minutes is up. Failure to uphold this rule will result in fining and/or temporary banning, at the discretion of the SP/Admin involved. - 7.) Don't Grief! Please do not destroy the same player over and over simply for the fun of it as it detracts from the overall experience of the game. This does not apply to piracy or raiding, which are both covered in rule 8. This also does not apply if they attack you, or if they are assaulting/camping/smuggling into your faction's home territory.
See rule 8 for more information regarding piracy and raiding. - 8.) Piracy/Lawful raiding - In order for Shattered Worlds to have an environment which fits both the trading/mining mentality and the mentality of piracy/coordinated military strikes, the following rule has been implemented.
There are two types of primary pirate activities, and both have their own rules.
- 1. Raids - Raids are any pirate or lawful incursion within 5k of a hostile base. A pirate, or a lawful military raider, may only destroy a given player twice (2) within 5k of a given docking ring or base during any particular raid. This is to portray a pirate or lawful "raid" on the base, and but also keeps pirates, or lawfuls, from camping bases which wouldn't be realistically able to be camped. Pirates/lawfuls may also not "camp" within 5k of a base of opposite alignment.
Coordinated raids are great, but this rule is coming into effect to stop the lame pirate, and lawful, camping of bases which don't belong to them. - 2. Taxation - Piracy at it's finest; the Admin realize this is a significant portion of a pirate's role-play. The rules for it are as follows:
- ALL Taxation must occur at least 5k away from a docking ring or base. All attacks that are perpetrated outside of the 5k area away from a base must be accompanied by either a demand for tax and/or be incited by verbal role-play.
- Pirates may only tax a given character file twice (2) in a given 24 hour period. This is to promote pirates moving around a bit, instead of sitting in one spot.
- Note: This means that Little Johnny might have BobTrader and JoeMiner as characters, but MikePirate may pirate both of those files twice.
- Pirates may blow someone up multiple times if said "someone" continues to come at where they're taxing. There is no limit on this, akin to "defenders territory" ruling above. NOTE: This does not give pirates carte blanche to destroy traders on sight. This applies to traders who refuse to pay tax, but keep coming back over and over. Refer to the Golden Rule if you are thinking of abusing this.
- NOTE: Pirates may chase a fleeing trader into the 5k limit around bases and still pirate (tax) them. However, this then falls under the Raiding rule above for the number of kills allowed.
- 9.) A Territory Engagement Protocol is being developed for Shattered Worlds: War-torn. When it is instituted, the relevant thread will be referenced here with details.
- 10.) Names must be an actual name, callsign, ship-name or nickname. Good examples are ones such as Torch (as a callsign) James_Grey, or Otagi. No string of nonsensical characters are allowed (e.g. no 100% l337 speak) nor are any names concerning modern politics and/or religious aspects (e.g. Jesus, Allah, Barack Obama, whatever.) Also, your name cannot be nearly the same as someone elses. Example: Ramirez is already created, so you make Ramires or Rarmirez. This is a no-no.
This is left up to the judgment call of the Admin and/or Server Police. If they ask you to change it, then please do. - 11.) Bases - Where to land and not to land.
- If a player Faction/Clan has declared another group or player KOS, that group or player does not land on the Faction/Clan's bases that are claimed through the Territory claims system.
- If a player Faction/Clan has taken ownership of a base outside of the Territory claims system (e.g. roleplay, etc), then they have to enforce their will at that base through force of arms. If a hostile, combat eligible (Not under 20, not under re-engagement rule), member of that Faction/Clan is within 5k of the base, do not dock on the base.
- 12.) Don't God-Mod. The term applies to characters that are "godlike" in their omniscience or physical capabilities. That doesn't mean everyone's human, but role-play something semi-believable.
- 13.) Don't meta-game in RP. Meta-gaming is the process of using out-of-character information against a character in-game. E.g. you know that BobSmuggler is the alt character of JimPolice. Unless you role-play some sort of connection, your CHARACTER does not know this. Don't react as if you do.
- 14.) No RP dictation. Do not dictate what another person or faction is doing in response to your role-play unless you've spoken to the person/faction beforehand. Note: This is up to the decision of the Admin team, if there is a problem. Contact Ramirez and ILIKECAPS if you have any questions.
- 15.) No warping/hot-dogging. A fast and loose definition of warping/hot-dogging is switching characters from one system to another to gain a strategic advantage against your opponent. This means don't change characters to chase a trader or when you see an opponent log in, don't immediately switch to an alt in their system and start ganking them.
